Flooding is the most common cause of leaks, or shall we say fluid leak-out? Because it is actually something different. It happens when you suck too hard on your device, which causes liquid to overflow. With too much flooding the atomizer, and the wick not being able to vaporize it all, the liquid will rush out, either onto the battery or into your mouth. As you have probably imagined, or already know from experience, it is an absolutely disgusting occurrence. And most likely, one you have no interest in repeating.
Flooding a battery can be detrimental on a large scale, as it can totally kill the battery, or leave it making a wretched gurgling sound. You can tell if your battery is flooded if you are able to see that the liquid is coming from the area where the battery and cartomizer connect.
Other causes of flooding are when tanks get overfilled, or if the atomizer coil has gotten too old to perform properly.
Leaks, on the other hand, are caused by small cracks in the tank, typically at the base, and cause liquid to actually leak out. Certain e-liquid flavors, such as cinnamon, menthol, and some fruit flavors are notorious for causing plastic tanks to melt and crack as a result of their higher temperatures; one reason why some people prefer glass tanks exclusively.
So, now that you know the difference between flooding and leaking, it’s time to get down to business and fix the issue!
How to Fix a Vape Flood:
To remedy a flood, as long as you’re sure the atomizer coil is doing its job and working right, the fix is simple. Disassemble all parts of your device, and use a paper towel to dry off all the parts. Blow through the tip to clear it out, and get rid of liquid that may be causing the dreaded gurgling sound.
For long-term protection, consider swapping your device for a clearomizer, or clear tank, because these tanks allow you to see the level of liquid at all times, so you won’t run the risk of overfilling.
How to Fix a Leak:
If your device is leaking as a result of cracks, there is no quick fix; it’s simply time for a new cartomizer.
So that sums it up! Getting your vape pen to perform properly usually just takes a couple tweaks, learning a little more about how things work, and using the right products in the right way.
